INTENDED PURPOSE

John 12-:1-8 NKJ   Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived at Bethany where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.   Here a dinner was given in Jesus' honor.  Martha served, while Lazarus  was among those  reclining at the table with Him.  Then Mary took about a pint of pure Nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped His feet with her hair.  And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.   But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray Him, objected.  Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor?  It was worth a year's wages.  He did not say this because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.  "Leave her alone," Jesus replied," it was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial.  You will always have the poor among you but you will not always have me."

The "Intended Purpose" is not always readily observed.

As in this passage, Judas couldn't know the real purpose of this expensive ointment. Only Jesus could see its REAL purpose.

In our own lives others can't see the intended purpose of GOD'S creation - YOU.  They can only see the outer _expression, and the outside of anything is never a full _expression of the contents.

If you were blindfolded and given a mug of hot liquid; if you are a coffee drinker you'd say it was coffee; if you were a tea drinker you'd say it was tea; if you were a hot chocolate fan, of course, you'd say it was hot chocolate.  According to what you think is in the cup you'd act in that manner.  Tea, you'd add lemon; coffee, you'd add cream and sugar; hot chocolate, you'd  add sugar and  a marshmallow.

But what if it was a cup of hot bouillon?  All of the things that you would add to that same cup would destroy the taste and possibly ruin a perfect cup of hot bouillon.

It's the same with understanding our "Intended Purpose."  Just because you sing well doesn't mean that you should go to Mo-Town and try to cut a CD.  Just because you have a good speaking voice, doesn't mean that you should go into television broadcasting or radio.   Some of the most beautiful music has been heard in the quiet time of prayer and worship.  Likewise, when a person is sincere, his earnest voice, sending a clear prayer to Almighty GOD is well received.

Some people live most of their lives without knowing their real purpose.  They grow-up; get jobs; marry; have children; grandchildren, and are never really fulfilled.  They think that there is no contentment in life, because of their inability to find their true purpose.   These people aren't unsaved.  Many are saved,  but the world has had such a tug on their life that the only thing that they could do is conform and perform.   When others looked at their lives, they could see their purpose.  Engineer, Lawyer, Nurse, Bus Driver,  Mortgager, Carpenter, Mother, Father, Wife, Husband.

Within  every one of the above titles there is an "Intended Purpose."  This Intended Purpose isn't readily seen.  It must be revealed by association and relationship with Jesus Christ.  Only Jesus Christ could look at the jar of Nard and proclaim its purpose.  Only Jesus Christ could look  through the tunnels of time and see His own time of burial.

Judas, on the other hand, could only see the outside of the container was expensive, he could then surmise that the contents were good for the trade of money. [This wasn't its true purpose!]

There are still people who will look at your ability, and proceed to speak, their own observation into your life.

You can only wonder how many people looked at Ann Sullivan and wondered why she spent all of her time with a single child.  After all she could have become a Principal or even go further in the profession of Education.

Instead, Ann Sullivan dedicated her life to Helen Keller, a blind and deaf child, who by the world standards success seemed difficult to obtain.

But, with the help of Ann Sullivan, Helen Keller is a name that is synonymous with overcoming obstacles.  She has stood as a beacon of light for thousands of handicapped and blind people all over the world.   Not only is she an icon, but in her life time, she traveled Over Seas to proclaim possibilities to the similarly stricken.

Author's Note:  While traveling to the Mayo Clinic, I took the tour to the home of Dr. Mayo.  There is a Guest Book, where many famous people have signed.  On the particular day that I visited, the book was opened to the signature of Helen Keller.  Not far from it was Ann Sullivan.

Because Ann Sullivan listened to the still small voice within her, she sat with Kings and Queens.  Because Ann Sullivan understood her "Intended Purpose" she labored in love, and gave to a little blind and deaf child, whom the world never would have known otherwise.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was The President of The United States of America longer than any elected President.  He served for twelve years when this country was in the worst economic crises that it had ever faced.  President Roosevelt or "FDR" as he was commonly referred to, called his term in office "The New Deal."

FDR was stricken with Polio at the age of thirty nine.  He was left a cripple who needed help to stand and walk.  On his own FDR could only drag himself across the floor with strong upper body movement, and this only as a result of many tortuous hours of physical exercise and determination.

FDR had a strong will to be the President of the United States.  To onlookers he was one of the many who were stricken with Polio and could probably  become a cripple without a name.  But we know Franklin D. Roosevelt as one of the greatest U.S. Presidents.

The name you seldom hear is the name James Roosevelt.  He was the son of Franklin who stood at his father's side.  James Roosevelt acted as a human crutch.  President Roosevelt couldn't stand alone, nor could he walk without assistance.  Only his closest friends and relatives knew of this weakness.  James Roosevelt had to be in excellent physical condition to hold his father in an upright position for hours at a time.

According to PBS Broadcasting in a Documentary about the former President, James Roosevelt was the enabling strength of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

To look at James Roosevelt you would place him on a football field or in some sort of weight lifting event.  But that wasn't his "Intended Purpose."

It seems that his "Intended Purpose" was to support ,his father, The President of the United States.  According to this same documentary, they practiced and practiced until they became skillful in making it look as if  The President was ambulating with minimal support.

James Roosevelt, too, sat with Kings and Queens because the "Intended Purpose" in his life had to be fulfilled.

Author's Note:
I noticed that when attempting to look up the names: Ann Sullivan and James Roosevelt you are referred to the people whom they helped.  You must look up Franklin D. Roosevelt in order to find the briefest sketch about James Roosevelt.  And  you  are referred to Helen Keller when you look up the name Ann Sullivan.  Seems to me that their "Intended Purpose" was accomplished.

Jesus Christ is the "Intended Purpose" of GOD'S plan of Salvation.  When the Elders, Scribes, Pharisees and Priests looked on Him, all they could see was the Man from Galilee who was keeping up a stir amongst the people.  They couldn't look on the outward appearance of Jesus and know his "Intended Purpose."

We all know that the primary summation of the Son of GOD was false, but do we realize  that the evaluation that others have of our purpose  may also be false?

We must let Jesus Christ whisper  to  us our..."Intended Purpose."

Noteworthy:

There are forty million people in the world who have diagnosed cases of AIDS.  Franklin Graham said that if there isn't something done before 2010 there will be more than one hundred million people infected.  ( Franklin Graham on the James Robinson Talk Show.)

According to Franklin Graham there is only one religion that, if practiced, would eradicate or stop this wide spread destruction.  It is the Judo-Christian belief.

Those who adhere to this belief would only have one mate in marriage and wouldn't stray to others.  This would begin to cancel the possibilities of spread.

In The Mirror:

There is something I have to share this week that will not get out of my Spirit, and I can't help but to wonder if I share it with you in love, that you will also benefit from God's servant that I was privileged to hear on last Sunday.

In his message he made a point of talking about the frailty, and the fragility of the human body to the degree that "one germ [left untreated] in the wrong place can kill the humane body." For me, I realized that, that was just one more added reason for a dying world to turn to a savior, and that being the only one I've ever known from a child up, our  Lord and Savior   JESUS CHRIST. God  Bless You.
