WHY DIDN’T YOU JUST…ASK?

And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be  glorified in the Son. (John 14:13-NKJV)

Those Cheerios were so good, this morning for breakfast; it would be nice to have another bowl.  From her position on the floor, the Cheerios box seemed to be on the ceiling; but, no, she was sure that she could reach it.  “If I just climb up on the chair, I’ll be able to reach that yellow box.”  She planned.
She carefully moved the chair to the cupboard, but she was still too short.  “Only a few inches more is needed.”  She quickly obtained the yellow pages, and the residential pages of the phone   book.  “That’ll do it!”  She was poised, reaching for the box, when…CRASH!  KAABOOM!  The phone books slipped and down she fell.
The noise was earth shattering, or was it her hurt feelings?  She cried without constraint.  Into the room rushed her mother.  “What were you doing?”  The Cheerios were all over the floor, and the little girl was smack dab in the middle of her self inflicted pain and self made mess.   She had a skinned knee, and a bump on her head, along with the pain of her hurt feelings.  She, the little girl, tried to explain to her Mommy, but to no avail.  Her sobs interfered with fluent conversation.
â€œI’m sorry, Mommy.”  The little girl sputtered.
Her Mother helped her up to her feet, and scolded.  “Why didn’t you just ask me?”
â€œWhy didn’t you just ask me?  I would have given you the Cheerios.  Now they’re all over the floor and you’re hurt.  Go to bed.”  The little girl continued to sob.  Sorrowfully, she looked back at the destruction.  The two phone books lay sprawled open, the Cheerios were now drenched with the intended milk, sugar was still spilling from off  the counter, and the kitchen floor was plastered with the Cheerios breakfast that she so desperately wanted.
What is it that you have plunged forward toward without asking GOD, in the name of Jesus, if you should have it?  What has lured you to avoiding authority?  Will you be honest in answering these questions?  The mess that the little girl made, can be likened to the mess that many of us make of our lives, without the intervention of GOD.  When we look back, we’re embarrassed and ashamed that we could have been so stout hearted as to plunge without asking GOD first.    How many times does He look over your messy life, and ask…“Why didn’t you just ask Me?”  Our broken lives seem to be in permanent ruin, then He steps in, like the little girl’s mother, and cleans up our mess.  If the little girl had been made to clean up her own mess, she may have been hurt by any broken glass etc.  The mother stands in proxy for the little girl, being mature enough to pick up and clean up the mess.
GOD stands by us in our bad decisions to help us and deliver us from the harmful aspects of reckless choices; but He wants to see and know that we will repent.  When repentance is the outcome, wisdom will emerge, with suggestions of prerequisites  that will include “Asking,” before plunging forward.
When GOD is included in the questioning His answers are always: Yes; No; or Wait.  If the little girl had asked her mother before attempting to climb up into the cabinet, the mother would have evaluated the situation, and told her to wait until she could make it for her or ‘No’.
Many of us are afraid that GOD will say, “NO!”  That is why we fall into situations that weren’t really for us.  Some of these situations could have been detrimental to our well being…BUT…GOD!
Let’s take this one step further.  When you see Jesus, you’ll be so happy, that is until He looks at you with a puzzled look, and asks you…“Why didn’t you just ask Me?”  That will be the worst moment of your entire life, because you’ll know exactly what He is talking about.  You’ll know that He means all of the mess that you left behind.  The lives that were broken and spilled out because you made decisions that affected their Eternal placement. You decided that you wouldn’t tell someone about Jesus; You decided that to go along with the crowd saying that there is no GOD; You voted for prayer to be removed from the schools; You didn’t want to create friction, so you let them crucify Jesus afresh; You turned your light of the Gospel off every time you left your home;  you decided that your prayers didn’t matter, so, you didn’t pray.   Your rationale is:  “I didn’t know these things had Eternal consequences.” Jesus will once again ask you . . . “Why didn’t you just ask,  Me?”
Put Jesus first!  Ask Him about everything.  Learn to listen to His reply, and do it.  Don’t be so afraid of a ‘No’ answer that you make a mess.  GOD is Sovereign…He knows you.
Don’t be afraid to just ask…JESUS.

SEE YA NEXT TIME!

NOTEWORTHY:
A  bit of information for you if you want to put it in your newsletter next time.

A Service Man from Sears came out to check my washing machine before putting it under warrantee for 2 years.   He told me something I didn't know. He said to keep the machine clean, put a cup of Clorox in the wash cycle and let it run the whole cycle with no load in it except the water and Clorox alone.   That way it will clean the machine of any built up dirt or old soap.   Also, I ask him about the right way to use softener in the wash he said the best way to use softener is to put it in with a warm water rinse rather than cold.  That way most of that softener is dispersed and the clothes don't have a heavy smell to them and in my case it breaks me out.  He said I can soften the clothes also by using 1 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle instead of softener and it does work. Try it!

FRIDAY’S WORD:  FUTURE HOPE
FUTURE HOPE The expectation of individuals after their death and of the world when God brings present world affairs to an end.
Future hope focuses upon the expectancy of the consummation of the individual’s salvation at the close of the age. With the ushering in of the eternal order at the return of Christ, the believer’s hope becomes experienced reality rather than anticipation of future experience (Rom. 8:24-25). This eschatological orientation of New Testament future hope grows out of the Old Testament prophetic anticipation of God’s future deliverance (Ps. 40; 42:11; 62:5-6; Isa. 25:9; 40:31; 42:4; 51:5; Jer. 29:4-15; 31:17, 31-34; Ezek. 36-37; Mic. 7:7). See especially Paul’s use of Isaiah 11:10 in Romans 15:12.

IN THE MIRROR:
We live in a time of unprecedented discoveries, many of which tend to make life longer and living more comfortable and enjoyable. But with change and progress the inexorable law of change and decay also operates. Strange that so few in this world prepare for the inevitable.

-- L. Nelson Bell.  Christianity Today, Vol. 1, reprinted Vol. 40, no. 10.

There was a story told about a group of people going on their dream vacation aboard a flight. They’re taking on this flight every pleasure imaginable along with the friends to go with it.
After taking off the pilot comes over the intercom, “Welcome aboard. We’ll be serving you the best meal of your choice, and we’ll be doing all we can to make your flight enjoyable . . . However, I need to tell you— we have no destination. That’s right! We’re just going to keep flying till we run out of fuel, and we should go straight down around the middle of the Pacific Ocean. On behalf of the staff and I, enjoy your flight!”
The story reminds me of a life without Christ. We can do a pretty good job of doing much on our own behalf, making a comfortable and pleasurable life for ourselves, but if we’ve done nothing to prepare for our real final destination, then what do we really have when its all over down here?  Just food for thought sown into your hearts with love!                   SLC
