MAMMON
(WHO DO YOU LOVE?)
Matthew 6:24-29; (KJV)
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot
serve God and mammon.
25Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not
the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better
than they?
27Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Her Mother was quite tired of that ragged, worn, and simply put, ugly old germ attracting stuffed toy. The Mother had tried, unsuccessfully, approximately
three times in her child’s life to utterly destroy the toy; but, seemingly, the toy would send out a signal and the child would stir as the flabbergasted
mother was attempting to snatch the eye sore from her child in the middle of the night. She had heard of situations with ragged old blankies and other
children who wouldn’t part with them, holding Mother’s captive as the child and the blanky ruled.
“What is this?” she mused. “I never even imagined that my child would be one of those clingy brats who wouldn’t let go of an old toy. This is driving
me crazy. The only time they are separated is when grandma’s house is their residence, and I am not there. My Mother tells me that, that old ragged thing
then gets laid tenderly on the couch. Oh, how I wish that I could be there; but no, here I sit wondering about my parenting skills, and that old stuffed
toy rules.”
A knock on the door jarred her from her musing. Quickly and quietly she went to the door, looking through the peep hole, she saw a woman dressed like
a Fairy. She didn’t bother to answer because this was not the right time for the ‘Play Lady.’ She walked quietly back to her spot and the Fairy was sitting
right there. She blinked, and rubbed her eyes. “I must be dreaming. Well, I might as well find out what this is all about.

What do I call you, Fairy, or Play Lady?”
With a gaze the mother had never experienced and a majestic answer, the Play Lady answered. “You may call me whatever you deem necessary.” The Mother’s
knees began to quake, she thought that she would fall, when she sat with a thud, on her chair. She wondered. “Who is this?” The Fairy, Play Lady answered.
“I am your child’s stuffed toy.” The Mother was baffled. She thought. “Not that toy! That raggedy, piece of junk.”
“Yes.” The Fairy answered, and continued. “Your child, and I belong in Heaven; but you have been permitted to hold us for a little while. Your lease
is almost up, and all you have ever done is criticize me, and push me and your child away. Your child does not see me as you see me. I am always just
as you see me now to your child. All of the other toys pale in comparison because of the love that your child has poured into me. You plan to rid your
child of me. I know that is not necessary because soon you will be rid of us both. I don’t know if that is your plan; but that is ‘THE PLAN,’ and nothing
can change it.”
This was a dream, she knew it. This was a dream, however, she was now awake, and keenly aware of her surroundings. She wanted more. She needed more
from this Play Lady. No! This was a dream about an Angel, and she was afraid. She looked around, and in the chair where the Play Lady – Fairy had resided,
was that ragged, old worn stuffed doll. Quickly she grabbed it and took it, as fast as she could, up to her sleeping child’s room. She wondered how
she had gotten hold of it. Was this a joke? What about my lease? Everything seemed so real… it was real!
She lovingly placed the stuffed toy back into her child’s arms, and left the room, sobbing.
What if this was real? She fell on her knees. “Oh GOD! Oh GOD! Please let this not be true. I repent, Lord, GOD. I repent. Lord, If I’ve sinned
in any way, I repent of my sin, and I forgive all. Please GOD. Please, don’t take my baby from me.” She felt the presence of another in the room. It
was her child, and the angel toy.
The Mother spoke. “Hi. What if we clean up your room today? Would you like that?” The child nodded consent, and immediately ran to the sanctity of
the room to hide the stuffed toy, before the cleaning routine began. The Mother promised her child that she would not take the stuffed doll, however,
they, the two of them would give away any other stuffed toy, and toy that they could to some other little boy or girl.

Happily they went about rearranging the toys, and giving away the brightly colored toys that had been dangled before the eyes of the little child in the
past. When the task was completed, the ragged, old, stuffed toy lay on the bed…alone, ruling the rest of the room from his pillow throne.
There is only room for one. We as individuals must make quality decisions about who we will serve. We have been taught to use our eyes to judge without
righteousness; but GOD judges the decisions of the heart.
What is really important to you, fleeting style or staying Spirit?
Luke 16:15; (KJV)

abomination in the sight of God.”

The Conditions of Discipleship
“If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also … . And whoever does
not bear his cross and come after Me … . So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple” (Luke 14:26–27, 33).
If the closest relationships of a disciple’s life conflict with the claims of Jesus Christ, then our Lord requires instant obedience to Himself. Discipleship
means personal, passionate devotion to a Person—our Lord Jesus Christ. There is a vast difference between devotion to a person and devotion to principles
or to a cause. Our Lord never proclaimed a cause—He proclaimed personal devotion to Himself. To be a disciple is to be a devoted bondservant motivated
by love for the Lord Jesus. Many of us who call ourselves Christians are not truly devoted to Jesus Christ. No one on earth has this passionate love for
the Lord Jesus unless the Holy Spirit has given it to him. We may admire, respect, and revere Him, but we cannot love Him on our own.
The only One who truly loves the Lord Jesus is the Holy Spirit, and it is He who has “poured out in our hearts” the very “love of God” (Romans 5:5). Whenever
the Holy Spirit sees an opportunity to glorify Jesus through you, He will take your entire being and set you ablaze with glowing devotion to Jesus Christ.

The Christian life is a life characterized by true and spontaneous creativity. Consequently, a disciple is subject to the same charge that was leveled
against Jesus Christ, namely, the charge of inconsistency. But Jesus Christ was always consistent in His relationship to God, and a Christian must be consistent
in his relationship to the life of the Son of God in him, not consistent to strict, unyielding doctrines. People pour themselves into their own doctrines,
and God has to blast them out of their preconceived ideas before they can become devoted to Jesus Christ.

TJIFA’S BOOKSHELF: MATTHEW 5 – “THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT”
THE HOLY BIBLE
Readers, we are now in Matthew’s gospel, learning key points about “The Sermon on the mount.” There are excerpts of this message in the other Gospels,
also, and our Bible teacher, Dr. J. Vernon McGee reports that he believes that He, Jesus, repeated a great deal of the truths that are here.
Here are a few key points about the Sermon on the Mount:
.The content of the Christian Gospel is not found in the Sermon on the Mount. (The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is not in this discourse.)
.To say that you live by the ‘Sermon on the Mount’ is hypocrisy. (If a person would read it, he would know that he is not living it.)
.To reduce the Christian Message to the Sermon on the Mount is a simplicity which the Scriptures would not permit under any circumstances whatsoever.
.There are groups, even now, who feel that the “Sermon on the Mount” is not for us, and that we should just rule it out. (These people are called hyper-dispensationalists.)
.The “Sermon on the Mount” is law lifted to the tenth degree.
.Man could not keep the Ten Commandments in the Old Testament, how can he ever hope to keep a higher level of law in his own strength?
.Living by the power of the Indwelling Holy Spirit is one of the truths that is just not taught in the “Sermon on the Mount.”
.The “Sermon on the Mount” expresses the Mind of Christ and certainly His Mind should be in the Christian.
.The primary purpose of the sermon is to set before men the Law of the Kingdom.
. It will be the Law of this world during the Millennium. That’s when it will find its full fruition. Christ will be here in Person to enforce
every Word of it.
This is the manifesto of the King, and it is the platform of the Prince of Peace.
THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT WILL FINALLY PREVAIL, WHEN HE, WHOSE RIGHT IT IS TO RULE, WILL COME.
Anyone who acknowledges Him, today as LORD would not despise this document and turn their back on it. The Christian who calls Him LORD, will seek to do
the things He commands; he can obey only in the Power of the Holy Spirit. Only the Gospel of the Grace of GOD, can make man obedient to Christ. It was
given to bring man to obedience.
The Sermon on the Mount needs to be preached to bring conviction to the hearts of man, and to let them know that they come short of His glory.
The “Sermon on the Mount” lets men know that they have sinned.
It reveals that none are righteous, and all have come short of GOD.
NOTE: Jesus did not give “The Sermon on the Mount” to the multitudes but to His disciples:Matthew 5:1 (KJV)
1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, . . .
He gave it to those who were already His, because He saw the multitude and their needs, therefore He gave it to them indirectly through His disciples.
(He taught His disciples so they could teach them.)

REVELATION? HEAVEN OR HELL?
The following quotes and excerpts are taken from: “Heaven” by Randy Alcorn. (A big book on Heaven.) TJIFA has quoted this book in the past and will continue
to give glimpses of the place where we all desire to be after our departure from this Earth. Heaven is a subject that is pushed aside regularly, but the
more years I accumulate, the more I desire to know about my future dwelling. Hopefully, many of you feel the same.
Neither Heaven nor Hell can be evaluated with earth’s five senses; therefore the presumption flagrantly pervades our mortality that they are fictitious
fables and myths. They are more real than the air that we breathe, and to turn one’s back on these truths yield a miserable Eternity.
HEAVEN OR HELL?
“Misery loves company; but there will be nothing to love in Hell.”
“If we understood Hell even the slightest bit – none of us would say, “Go to Hell.”
It is easy to go to Hell. We were born with our navigational systems set toward Hell. All you do is…nothing.
“The Doctrine of Hell is Christ’s deliberate judgment on sin. We cannot repudiate Hell without altogether repudiating Christ.”
Question: Would it be unloving to speak to others about Hell?
Answer: Is it unloving to tell someone about a road that is full of unexpected danger, or is it best to inform someone about the dangers of that road?
Which would show love?
There are only two possible destinations after death; they are Heaven and Hell. They are both as real as one another.
Why not tell unsaved people about the cancer of sin and evil and how the inevitable penalty of destruction can be avoided by the atoning sacrifice of Jesus
Christ.

QUICK QUOTES:
“O my soul, what need it trouble thee to have heaviness in the evening, so long as Thou sure to have joy in the morning?” Sir Richard Baker
From: Turning Point e-magazine June 14, 2011
“Your greatest wealth is your children. It is felt that children make a rich man poor; but not so, children make a poor man rich.”
A rich man can’t take his wealth to heaven; but a poor man can take his…children.
Thoughts from “Love Worth Finding Broadcast” TBN Sunday June 26, 2011
“GOD loves us so He makes us the gift of suffering. Through suffering, we release our hold on the toys of this world, and know our true good lies in
another world. They’re like blocks of stone out of which a sculptor carves the forms of men. The blows of his chisel, which hurt us so much, make us
perfect. The suffering in this world is not the failure of GOD’S Love for us, it is that Love in action.”
C.S. Lewis from: “Shadow Lands” by William Nicholson.
“I pray because I can’t help myself. I pray because I’m helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all of the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn’t
change GOD, it changes me.”
C.S. Lewis from: “Shadow Lands” by William Nicholson
“I’ve been given the choice twice in my life, the boy chose safety; the man chooses suffering.”
C.S. Lewis from: “Shadow Lands” by William NicholsonMILLSTONE… FORBID THEM NOT! WHY DID MARTYRS HAVE TO DIE?
Every young Christian child wants to know why Martyrs have to die? I was no different. I pondered this question for a long time before confronting my
‘all wise’ mother. She didn’t look a bit surprised about my young mind’s question. In fact, she looked as if she’d been waiting for this very question;
ready and willing to answer it in length. I have shared this with Readers in the past, now, I’d like to share it again.

My mother sat me down next to her on the big couch. She began very intimately to explain. “Martyr’s died for the cause of Christ. They would not bow
to the kings or rulers of their day. Martyrs were Christians who believed that Jesus Christ came, bled, died, and resurrected on the third day. They
believed this to their death, which is what Jesus was talking about when He said, 24' For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will
lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 25For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?’” ( Luke
9:24, 25; KJV).
Being the young one with many questions, I then asked her, “Mom, couldn’t I just have told the soldiers that I was not a Christian.” My mother nicely
said, “Then you are not a Christian.”
I couldn’t understand that if I just said that to keep myself out of trouble; like being burned at the stake, why not? After all the fire is hot. Kindly,
mom once again replied. “If you say that you’re not a Christian, you’re not a Christian, for the Bible says, ‘26For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and
of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels”( Luke 9:26, 27;
KJV).
I don’t remember just how old or how young I was at that time; however, I do remember that this conversation scared me. To think that Jesus would not
recognize me or any other if they denied Him before a flesh and blood friend, whom you were trying to impress. Now, that’s not worth it. Not at all!
I know that this was a point of no return for me. I pondered Hell’s fire. I even wondered if Hell was real. The chance that it was not real, was not
worth taking, for the possibility that it was not had no benefits. I wanted Heaven because it was a very happy and pleasant place. A place where there
was no more crying, and no more tears… and all you had to do is be a Christian willing to give up your life for Jesus. Too simple. Done!
How about you, Christian? Are you willing to burn, or will you “BURN”… FOREVER? TER
TOTT THINK ON THESE THINGS: ‘THE SPARROW’
He sees the sparrow when he falls;
His eye is on the sparrow.
Standing by the kitchen window, I heard the familiar chirping of the tiny sparrow.
This bird, to me, is remarkable. Unlike the Robin, or some of its other cousins, the sparrow hops around in the grass, and always finds something that
satisfies him. When the Robin, with its bright red breast finds a worm, or large bug, he pulls it up, and away he flies worm dangling; but not so with
the Sparrow. He hops, and hops over the grassy ground, occasionally looking as if he picking up food, but either he is a good imitator, or he finds nothing.
He does, however, fly away to his nest.
What this scenario gave me in revelation thought was this:
Sometimes you and others can see your blessings, and sometimes they are not visible at all. In any case, can we be like the Sparrow, who seems happy to
hop, and hop until he is satisfied. The very fact that Sparrows are still in the world yields proof positive that he must be picking up something that
is so small, but so nutritious that he continues to thrive.
His song hasn’t changed, he finds no lack, and he continues to thank GOD for his meals, that no one can see, no one that is but he and The Master, who
provides.
Can we be as happy with little from the Master’s Hand as the Sparrow? Or, do we have to get big blessings that everyone can envy in order to count it
as a blessing?
Think on these things! TER

FRIDAY’S WORD:
MAMMON The Greek form of a Syriac or Aramaic word for “money,” “riches,” “property,” “worldly goods,” or “profit.” In general use it was a personification
of riches as an evil spirit or deity. From about 1500 it has been current in English as indicating the evil influence of wealth. The word is not used in
the Old Testament. In the New Testament it is used only by Jesus (Matt. 6:24; Luke 16:9, 11, 13). In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus said, “Ye cannot serve
God and mammon.” He meant that no one can be a slave of God and worldly wealth at the same time. The undivided concentration of mind to money-getting is
incompatible with wholehearted devotion to God and to His service (Col. 3:5). In the parable of the unjust steward (Luke 15:1-13), Jesus commended the
steward’s foresight, not his method. His object was to point out how one may best use wealth, tainted or otherwise, with a view to the future. See Stewardship.

From: Holman’s Bible Dictionary
IN THE MIRROR:
Question: What’s it like to be rich? What’s it like to be young? What’s it like to be a ruler?
Luke 18:18 - 27 (KJV) 18And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 19And Jesus said unto him, Why callest
thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. 20Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false
witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. 21And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. 22Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him,
Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. 23And when
he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. 24And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches
enter into the kingdom of God! 25For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 26And
they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? 27And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

In my Bible, this man in the story that Dr. Luke tells us of is titled, “The rich young ruler.”
Having been given the privilege of spending three weeks in this area of the gospel, there were just too many lingering thoughts that continued to penetrate
my mind that I hope to share some with the people in my life that have come to mean so much to me. There is always a certain ‘looking forward to’ as I
sit and think of you.
Before getting involved with these three characteristic in particular, I would like to tell you about the thing that most peaked my interest.
The Bible says that when the young man hears Jesus tell him to, “ . . .sell all that thou hast, and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure
in heaven: and come, follow me.”(v.22); according to Matthew 19: 23-24, and Mark 10:23-24, along with Luke’s account that we printed for you on the above
page, all seem to agree that it was his ‘riches’ and ‘great possessions’ which caused his ‘sorrowfulness.’
My curiosity slowly became aroused in a large scope, and that being, “How much was he affected by Jesus’ words, ‘follow me?’” — Boy, are we going to have
some kind of fun with this one. Huh!

If we evaluate the ‘ruler’s’ initial question, “Good Master, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” we might have to say that Jesus’ response to him was
the best answer he could ever have been given, due to that old cliche, “You can’t take it with you.” Add to that, ‘treasure in heaven’ is ten thousand
times ten thousand better than anything you can accumulate on earth; or do you think he may have failed to pull out his book of Proverbs (the book of wisdom),
and run across some of these: Proverbs 13:7 (KJV) 7There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great
riches. Proverbs 19:1 (KJV) 1Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool. Proverbs 19:17 (KJV)
17He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. — That’s only a few, but I wanted to try and
make a point that God makes a clear distinction between rich and poor, wealth and poverty; with the main reason being, look at where we are today because
of the way we have allowed ourselves to be misguided along these pathways.
Not meaning to spend too much time in that area, except to say that to ‘follow’ Jesus is to give up something of value to yourself, and one obvious answer
to that is you are given an opportunity to show how precious a thing is by how much you are willing to pay in order to obtain or to possess.
What’s it like to be young? At sixty plus, that answer escapes me, but I’ll try and see how much I may be able to recall.
A good place to start may be by asking the question of, “How much does a young person nowadays feel a need for God? To generalize some thoughts, I believe
at certain times in a young person’s life there is, or can be, that great feeling of wealth, health, and security that dictates to the mind that you can
go on forever in your own strength and ability. They don’t necessarily have to believe that God woke them up because they ate right, exercised, took their
vitamins, didn’t smoke or drink before going to bed, so it may even be reasonable to them that they saved God the trouble of having to awaken them.
It may be that they went out and earned their living without any help from God altogether, and to have to give back anything as a result might be something
too unreasonable to ask of them. And what about a good insurance policy with a good 401 plan, small on premiums, big on retirement payoff, and by the way
— everybody does reach retirement age, don’t they?
Well, before I’m threatened with redundancy; do you think it possible this young man in our story just may have too many plans and ideas of his own, and
nothing involving God, when God wanted to give him more than he could have ever dreamed?
Do you believe we all are, or have been guilty of this same indictment?
Jesus didn’t say much about his youth in particular, but Jesus had said something prior to this young man’s question, and I can’t help but wonder if this
fortunate man heard this statement, but made his own decision that these words did not apply to him: Luke 18:16 - 17 (KJV) “ . . .Suffer little children
to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. 17Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little
child shall in no wise enter therein.”
All of this had to play a role in following Jesus then, and for our lives today God has placed much in the Bible to help shape our decision making process.
Here a just a few:
Psalms 119:9 (KJV) 9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
Psalms 90:12 (KJV) 12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Proverbs 20:29 (KJV) 29The glory of young men is their
strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head.
Ecclesiastes 11:9 - 10 (KJV) 9Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine
heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment. 10Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart,
and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
These are just for perspective, and as always, the Bible provides so much more.
In an attempt to encapsulate the mind of this rich young ruler, I have to stop and take into consideration that to be a ‘ruler,’ you must maintain some
of the characteristics of power; prestige; prominence; and certainly authority, just to name a few.
Do you get the idea here? Jesus comes along and says to this notable character, ‘I don’t want you to not only just sell all your possessions, but I want
you to follow me, and that means that you are no longer in charge or control of your own life. Nothing!’
I would like to ask you something right now. Do you see anything in the life of the ‘rich young ruler’ that may ring a familiar tone to you? There is a
difference between being a “believer” and a “follower” of Jesus Christ. The rich young ruler believed enough in Jesus to ask Him about “eternal life,”
but not enough to follow Him long enough to complete the process that makes it all possible (Luke 18:27). How’s it with you today? Jesus Christ is waiting
to give you an experience you’ll spend eternity thanking Him for. God Bless, SLC
